Malta: Ira Losco

Malta Ira Losco

Malta failed to qualify for the final last year but this mainstream tune might just get it back in the running. Ira represented Malta in 2002 with 7th Wonder; now she’s back with a very different sound, and nothing would make me happier than that amazing flared jumpsuit to make a comeback. Although she won the Maltese national selection in a not so dissimilar white ensemble, sadly it’s already rumoured that Ira will be wearing a dress. Sigh.

All Kinds of Everything: interview with Ira Losco

Babushki4 vs. Lordi4

WINNER: LORDI

Back in my younger days I was massively into the likes of Radiohead, so I always have a soft spot for something a bit different.

ABBA4 vs. Eurovision Song Contest 2014

WINNER: ABBA

That’s too hard! ABBA did so much for music worldwide, so I’d have to say them. But I really love Conchita too.

What does the Maltese public think of Eurovision?

Everyone in Malta loves the Eurovision Song Contest, and would love it so much if we were able to win and host it. We wouldn’t give you a Eurovision host city, but an entire host island! People gather in bars and at house parties to watch the contest, and something crazy like 90% of the population watches the live final.

Do you have any rituals before going on stage?

Usually I just try to focus on the performance, and remember to breathe – that’s really important for a singer!

Who is your favourite Eurovision act of all time?

Loreen. Her song and performance was part of the reason why I decided to take part in the competition again, because it just showed how much Eurovision has become so much more relevant to the wider music industry.

Hello Europe, it’s Camilla calling! Here are the points from the House of Apcar vote.

Malta: 5 points

According to my own personal preference, I have awarded points to all 43 acts entering this year’s contest using the EBU’s scoring system (12, 10 and 8-1 points).
