United Kingdom: Electro Velvet

You’re bound to get sneezes, or nasty diseases

Swing isn’t normal Eurovision fare – but neither was Lordi’s Hardrock Hallelujah sound when they won in 2006, either. Sadly, the difference with the Finnish mega monsters was that even if accused of being a gimmick, they presented a clear, coherent act. Electro Velvet, however, are all over the place. Do they want to transport Europe to a swish prohibition era jazz club or a sweaty electro joint in Southend? Who’s to say. For such an upbeat song, it’s a shame that Bianca and Alex look likely to remain rooted to the spot: sleek staging could do the over-enthusiastic duo wonders, but a warm reception is far from guaranteed. What I do know for certain is that the awkward scat interlude has got to go.

Hello Europe, it’s Camilla calling! Here are the points from the House of Apcar vote.

United Kingdom: 2 points.

According to my own personal preference, I have awarded points to all 40 acts entering this year’s contest, with four countries receiving each set of points used by the EBU (12, 10, and 8-1).
