Ukraine: Maria Yaremchuk

Ukraine Maria Yaremchuk

Maria Yaremchuk won the Ukrainian ticket last night by over 2,000 public votes and earned top marks from the jury with Tick-Tock, a leather-infested pop song that for once has nothing to do with Ke$ha. The 20-year old gave the national selection a stab last year too, finishing fifth, but can she do any better than Zlata, who finished third in Malmö?

This is one heavily influenced gal: RiRi, Angelina Jolie, Madonna, Michael Jackson and last year’s Romanian powerhouse Cezar all seem to have made a mark on young Maria. There’s some desperate desire to be branded ‘fierce’, but this underage dominatrix vibe needs a bit less leg and hip action and a bit more vocal strength. Maria is constantly teetering on running out of breath, but with five months to work on Tick-Tock, she’ll likely make it to the final. But it’s an innocuous tune; nothing on last year’s Gravity.

And…those lyrics…err:

We belong to each other like a sister to a brother

Contagious rating: 6/10

Tick-Tock

I believe that I’ve loved you
Since the first time that I saw you
Bells rang angels sang
When the light of the night
fell on us we knew

Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh

We both knew that you were mine
Now cover me, I’ll buy us time, time

oh oh oh oh oh oh oh *2

Oh wait for me I’m worth your while
Tick-tock, can you hear me go tick tock
My heart is like a clock, I’m steady like a rock
Sch don’t stop, kiss and kiss me till I drop
My heart is like a clock you wind it with your love
You wind and wind, it with your love
Now I know it’s too hard to
go tick tock without the glimpse of you
If you cave in I break
I keep losing my pace
In this endless race

Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh

They all know that you’re mine
They can see we belong
Shelter me, you’ll do fine
Wait for me, I’ll buy us time

Tick-tock, can you hear me go tick tock
My heart is like a clock, I’m steady like a rock
Sch don’t stop, kiss and kiss me till I drop
My heart is like a clock, you wind it with your love
