Sweden: Sanna Nielsen

Sweden Sanna

Six weeks later, 31 acts bite the dust and Sanna Nielsen has been crowned the winner of Melodifestivalen with Undo. And about time, too – this year was the 29-year old’s seventh time competing in the national selection, where she has finished third, fifth, eighth, seventh, second, fourth and now (finally) first. Her 2012 entry Empty Room was number one in the Swedish charts for 24 weeks, and Undo has promptly followed suit. But can she make like beloved Loreen?

Unwavering confidence is Sanna’s greatest strength in Undo, because even when her voice falters, there’s a steadfast catsuit, Scandinavian bob and rousing bridge to fall back on. Undo ‘my self’ instead of ‘my sad’ might have been a marginally more logical choice of lyric, yet what’s Eurovision without the nonsensical? Anyone who says she’s past her Eurovision prime should be knocked right back down: call it seven years of rehearsal, if you will.

Contagious rating: 9/10

Undo

Silent I just stood there silent
Working up a storm inside my head
Nothing I just stood for nothing
So I fell for everything you said

Hear the rumble
Hear my voice

Silent I can’t wait here silent
Gotta make a change
And make some noise

Undo my sad
Undo what hurts so bad
Undo my pain
Gonna get out, through the rain
I know that I am over you
At last I know what I should do
Undo my sad

Trouble baby I’m in throuble
Everytime I look into your eyes
Save me oh I’m gonna save me
Faraway from all the crazy lies

Hear the rumble
Hear my voice

Undo my sad
Undo what hurts so bad
Undo my pain
Gonna get out, through the rain
I know that I am over you
At last I know what I should do
Undo my sad
